Mystery Vegetable

We got a mystery vegetable in our box from the CSA today.  Just for fun, to see if people could guess.  They did it last year too and said they had some pretty interesting guesses.  As soon as I cut into it I knew almost certainly what it was, though not the name of the variety.  Then I cheated and googled it.  Do you know what it is?

Kumquat? Doesn't look like the ones I got from my CSA, but it's little and citrus-y.

Nope, not a kumquat. And it's not citrus-y. It's bigger than kumquats - more like golf ball size but slightly elongated.

Is it a fig? That's not a veggie, but it reminds me of a unripe fig.

Cucumber?

Ding! Ding! Ding! Ellen is correct. Specifically, it's an Asian cucumber. Assuming my research is correct. But judging by the smell and taste and pictures I found, I'm pretty certain I'm correct. Thanks for playing!

Seriously, that's a cucumber? Does it taste anything like it's larger and longer cousins?

Really? A cumcumber? Wow.

Oh dang, I was going to say Asian Cucumber. I've never tasted one but they look interesting. How fun is that CSA box? I really want to do this next year.

I'm loving the CSA box. And we're really getting to the substantial stuff now. Finally not overflowing with lettuce, and we've got a good variety of veggies in there!
